God's Uncommon Ways

God's Uncommon Ways

As adults, we are all familiar with the tax system here in the US. Many individuals are required to pay the government a tax after calculating their annual earnings and expenses. If an individual doesn’t have the funds to pay the tax, he or she would probably begin to examine multiple ways to pay the outstanding tax bill. I don’t believe anyone would think that the money to pay the bill would be in the mouth of a fish. However, it was there (in the mouth of a fish), that Jesus instructed Peter he would find money to pay their temple tax. Matthew 17: 24- 27 NLT 24 On their arrival in Capernaum, the collectors of the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the Temple tax?” 25 “Yes, he does,” Peter replied. Then he went into the house. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, “What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the people they have conquered?” 26 “They tax the people they have conquered,” Peter replied. “Well, then,” Jesus said, “the citizens are free! 27 However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us.”

God’s methods of getting things done on earth are often unusual and unconventional. Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. We often find security when God’s methods are close to our familiarity but become unsure when His ways are unorthodox. There is always safety and security in God’s plan, despite how uncommon it may be. This month we will examine some of God’s unconventional ways of getting things done on the earth to fuel you with faith to act upon the “out of the ordinary” things He is asking of you.

Prayer for the Journey

Lord,

help me to not create boundaries and limitations on how You can move in my life. Give me the strength to trust and act upon Your will despite how uncommon it may be. I know Your ways are what's best for me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
