One of the definitions of confidence is a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities. This is often the world's view of confidence and as a follower of Christ, it can be tempting to embrace this view. However, the bible tells us to place no confidence in our flesh (outward privileges, physical advantages, and external appearances). Philippians 3:3 ERV But we are the ones who have the true circumcision—we who worship God through his Spirit. We don’t trust in ourselves or anything we can do. We take pride only in Christ Jesus. What you trust in is what you will place your confidence in. Christ confidence is relative to your relationship with God and enables you to be free and fearless to do what God asks of you because you know who you are in Christ. One who is Christ-confident realizes that who they are and what they are capable of doing is not solely based on their abilities, but a relationship with Christ who grants unto every man courage, strength, gifts, and talents. Christians should be Christ-confident and not self-confident.
Prayer for the Journey
Lord, thank you for the reminder of where true confidence comes from...It comes from you. Because I know who I am in you, I have the confidence to do what you have called me to do. You are the vine and I am the branch (John 15:5). There is nothing I can do without you!
In Jesus Name, Amen!
